Your New Role and Responsibilities
The JCSE team supports the advanced systems at Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC)—a critical hub for multi-agency collaboration and command of Australian Defence Force operations. With 113 integrated operational spaces, HQJOC relies on seamless system coordination to ensure mission success.
As an Information Security Governance Officer, you'll support the governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) activities that help protect systems supporting our Defence and government customers. Working alongside experienced security practitioners, you'll gain exposure to security frameworks, accreditation processes, risk management, and compliance activities across the system lifecycle.
Responsibilities include:

Support compliance activities aligned to Defence security frameworks, including the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF).

Assist with system accreditation and certification tasks, helping prepare evidence and documentation required for security assessments.

Contribute to security risk assessments, maintain risk registers, and support the tracking of mitigation activities.

Assist in developing and maintaining governance documentation such as System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Risk Management Plans (SRMPs), procedures, and compliance records.

Support the implementation and monitoring of security controls to help protect information, systems, and user access.

Assist with internal audits, reviews, and compliance assessments by gathering information and maintaining records.

Contribute to incident management activities, including documentation, reporting, and lessons learned processes.

Provide support to project teams by helping communicate security requirements, policies, and best practices.

Assist with security monitoring and assurance activities, including tracking vulnerabilities, remediation efforts, and compliance reporting.
What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact
- Strong understanding of the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), DSPF, and related compliance standards.

Experience in risk management, security architecture, and incident response for mission-critical systems.

Familiarity with network security, identity and access management, and secure system design.

Proven experience in system certification and accreditation processes within Defence or similar regulated environments.
