To be eligible to apply for this position, you must hold a current Fellowship Certificate in Critical Care (Emergency, Intensive Care or Anaesthesia) or obtain a letter from the College advising that at time of clinical year commencement you will be a Fellow. If you do not hold an Australian Fellowship in the relevant field, please apply for the position of Advanced Trainee in Emergency Medicine (CAM29228), Intensive Care (CAM29229) or Anaesthesia (CAM29230)

Job Field - Anaesthesia - Retrieval Medicine

NSW Ambulance as part of the NSW Ministry of Health operates a mobile health service for the community of NSW providing emergency and non-emergency health care, retrieval and specialist transport services; major event planning and response; and community education. It is one of the largest Ambulance services in the world servicing a population in excess of 7.5 million, employing approximately 4,200 people and about 385 volunteers at more than 300 locations across NSW, operating a fleet of more than 1400 Ambulance and other vehicles, with an annual expenditure budget in excess of $800 million. NSW Ambulance is a division of the NSW Ministry of Health. The Health Services Act (1997) and Part 4 Health Services Regulation 2013 is the legislative framework under which NSW Ambulance functions.

Health Emergency and Aeromedical Services consists of the Health Emergency Management Unit and Aeromedical & Medical Retrieval Services (AMRS). AMRS provide aeromedical and critical care medical retrieval services for the community and consists of three sections: Aeromedical Control Centre; helicopter and medical retrieval operations; fixed-wing operations.

What you'll be doing

To provide high quality critical care to acutely ill and injured patients, both in the prehospital environment and during inter-hospital transfers with the Retrieval Service.
Consult with hospital, Aeromedical Operations and NSW Ambulance staff as required with respect to patient management and transport related issues.
Communicate effectively with senior staff as required regarding clinical management of patients.
Arrange patient management in accordance with the best interests of the patient, both prior to and during transport. Ensure an appropriate handover of patients transferred to another hospital. Document relevant clinical information legibly, concisely and accurately as well as timely completion of database entry.
To participate in Clinical Governance and other non-clinical activities related to the position, including participation in research in consultation with the Research Lead.
Ability to perform helicopter winching - obtaining HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) is a mandatory requirement to undertake helicopter operations.

HOW TO APPLY

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Fellowship qualification in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia or Intensive Care from an approved Australian medical specialist college and the ability to work as a Staff Specialist in Australia.

Ability to competently care for critically ill and injured patients in the prehospital and out-of-hospital environment with minimal resources and backup.

Ability to perform duties competently, both physically and psychologically, in the prehospital and interhospital environments, including helicopter winching.

Ability to safely adapt clinical practice to the environment.

Superior verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate concisely, diplomatically and effectively with a variety of health and non-health professionals.

Proven ability to comply with organisational policy and procedures, especially those related clinical governance and to safety.
