Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Security Officer (Acute Mental Health) to join our growing team on a Part Time ongoing basis. (24/7 Rotating 12hr Shifts)

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Security Officer (Acute Mental Health) to join our Support Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality security services within a mental health environment, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors. You will play a critical role in maintaining a safe, therapeutic setting by responding to incidents, supporting de-escalation, and working collaboratively with clinical teams to manage risk while upholding dignity and person-centred care.

The role of the Security Officer (Acute Mental Health) is to:

Provide a visible security presence and respond promptly to incidents, alarms, and emergencies within the acute mental health unit.
Support clinical teams in managing behavioural disturbances using de-escalation techniques and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
Conduct continuous patient observations for risk-assessed patients in line with clinical direction.
Accurately document and report incidents, hazards, and security events, contributing to investigation and risk mitigation processes.
Assist with operational duties, including escorting staff after hours, maintaining security logs, and transporting specimens.
Ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard and follow all security procedures, policies, and safety protocols.

About you

Ideal candidates for this role will have:

Hold a Certificate II in Security Operations (Unarmed Guard) with a current and satisfactory criminal record check.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment, particularly within healthcare or mental health settings (desirable).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to calmly engage and de-escalate individuals in distress.
A team-focused professional who can collaborate effectively with clinical staff while also working independently.
Highly observant with strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document incidents.
Committed to safety, respect, and delivering compassionate, person-centred service in a complex environment.
