Full Job Description

QA Engineer — Job Description

Role summary

Ensures software quality by designing, executing, and automating tests, validating features against requirements, and partnering with engineering to prevent and resolve defects.

Key responsibilities

Design, write, and execute test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria for features and releases.
Develop, maintain, and run automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end) using frameworks like Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Jest, or pytest.
Perform manual testing for exploratory, usability, and edge-case scenarios when automation is not feasible.
Collaborate with product, developers, and UX to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and ensure testability.
Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines and ensure automated runs as part of build/release processes.
Create and maintain test data, mocks, and test environments; manage test environments and test infrastructure.
Triage, reproduce, and document defects; verify fixes and track regression risks.
Measure and report quality metrics (test coverage, pass/fail rates, defect density, escape rate).
Implement and promote testing best practices: test-driven development (TDD), shift-left testing, code reviews for test code, and flaky test reduction.
Maintain test documentation, runbooks, and release checklists; participate in release readiness reviews.
Mentor junior QA engineers and contribute to improving QA processes and tooling.

Qualifications

Education: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Experience: 2–5+ years in software QA or testing roles; senior roles typically 5+ years.
Technical skills: Strong test design, automation scripting (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java), and familiarity with test frameworks and assertion libraries.
Tools & platforms: Experience with Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit/TestNG, pytest, and CI systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
Test types: Experience across unit, integration, API (Postman, REST-assured), E2E, performance, and security testing is preferred.
CI/CD & dev practices: Familiar with pipelines, containerized test environments (Docker), and version control (Git).
Quality metrics & observability: Comfortable with test reporting, flaky test mitigation, and monitoring test health.
Soft skills: Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills; attention to detail and ability to prioritize test coverage.
Certifications: ISTQB or relevant testing certifications are a plus.

Working conditions

Cross-functional agile teams; may participate in sprint ceremonies, nightly test runs, and release windows.
May require test environment maintenance during off-hours for deployments or performance tests.

Performance metrics

Test coverage and automated test pass rate.
Defect escape rate and mean time to detect defects.
Test suite reliability (flakiness) and average test execution time.
Time to create/maintain automated tests and number of regressions prevented.

Pay: $45.23 – $75.32 per hour
