Details: Based at the Domestic Animal Services facility in Symonston, Rangers are responsible for investigating alleged breaches of the Domestic Animals Act 2000 and Animal Welfare Act 1992, and the enforcement of regulatory actions. The position involves responding to complaints in field including attacks, roaming dogs, dogs within prohibited areas, and animal nuisance complaints. This includes handling dangerous and aggressive dogs day-to-day to ensure that service needs are met.
Rangers are also required to conduct high visibility patrols of public spaces to engagement, education and enforcement activities.
This position is appointed as an Authorised Person and Inspector under the Domestic Animals Act 2000 and Animal Welfare Act 1992.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
- Possession of a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations), or ability to attain within the first 12 months of commencement, is required.

Possession of an accredited microchipping certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of commencement, is required.

This position requires a Driver Licence (Class C) or equivalent.

This position requires pre-employment psychometric testing and medical assessment which includes audiometric testing and a moderate-level functional assessment.

Note: This is a temporary position available from August 2026 for six months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.
A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future vacancies over the next 12 months.
