About us

Naira Nepalese and Indian Restaurant is an established dining venue in Armidale offering authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine in a welcoming environment. We are committed to preparing high-quality dishes using traditional cooking methods, fresh ingredients and consistent food-safety practices.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

The successful applicant will prepare and cook a range of Nepalese and Indian dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s recipes, quality standards and service requirements. The role requires practical commercial-kitchen experience and the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.

Key responsibilities

Prepare, season, cook and present a range of Nepalese and Indian dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and recipes.
Prepare ingredients and maintain adequate mise en place for scheduled service periods.
Use commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including stovetops, grills, fryers, ovens and tandoor equipment where required.
Ensure consistency in food quality, flavour, portioning and presentation.
Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared and held safely.
Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before preparation and service.
Maintain correct food storage, labelling and stock-rotation procedures, including FIFO practices.
Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised kitchen work area.
Assist with stock control, inventory checks and ingredient ordering.
Monitor and minimise food wastage.
Work cooperatively with chefs, cooks and other kitchen staff during preparation and service.
Assist with menu improvements and daily specials where required.
Comply with food-safety, workplace-health-and-safety and hygiene requirements.

Mandatory requirements

At least one year of relevant employment experience as a Cook in a Nepalese, Indian or comparable commercial kitchen.
Practical knowledge of Nepalese and/or Indian cooking techniques, ingredients and spices.
Demonstrated understanding of commercial kitchen operations and service workflow.
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining food quality and consistency.
Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene requirements.
Good communication, teamwork and time-management skills.
Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays where required.

Desirable

Relevant commercial cookery qualification.
Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Previous experience in a Nepalese or Indian restaurant.
