The Opportunity
AME Systems is seeking a Design Engineer – Wiring Harnesses to join our engineering team.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of robust, manufacturable wiring harness solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
Graduates may be considered for this position subject to qualifications and experience.
Role Purpose
The Design Engineer is responsible for the development, documentation, and support of wiring harness designs across diverse customer platforms.
Graduate engineers will be supported by senior engineers, while experienced engineers will take greater ownership of designs from concept through release.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Create detailed wiring harness designs, and schematics; define wiring harness components to meet customer requirements
- Use Siemens Capital to author harness designs and generate manufacturing documentation
- Interpret customer specifications and applicable industry standards
- Collaborate with production, quality, test, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet all customer requirements
- Support continuous improvement and issue resolution activities
- Contribute to digitisation projects to implement digital twins and digital threads across our customer base
- Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with AME Systems’ quality system
- Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements
Additional Responsibilities
- End-to-end ownership of harness designs from concept through release
- Define connectors, terminals, seals, splices, protective coverings, and other components
- Develop Java-based automation or rules to improve design quality and efficiency
- Lead DFM/DFT activities and support in-process and end-of-line testing strategies
- Manage design baselines, options/variants, and engineering change activities
- Engage directly with customers and external stakeholders
- Apply structured problem-solving methods (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA)
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Degree qualification in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- High attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering and manufacturing environment
Experienced-Level Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in wiring harness design and development
- Proficiency with eCAD harness tools, preferably Siemens Capital
- Strong understanding of harness components, manufacturability, EMC basics, and environmental considerations
- Java programming skills for automation, reporting, or design rule enhancement
Appointment Level
The successful applicant will be appointed at an Experienced Design Engineer or Graduate level, with remuneration and responsibilities commensurate with qualifications, skills, and demonstrated capability.
