Allanson Primary School (PS) has a long and colourful history, proudly documented by Aileen Rusconi and Esther Saunders in Our Little Bush School. Established in 1913 to serve the children of Collie’s first coal mining and timber felling families, our school has always been a place where every child is known and supported. Dorothy Gibson, our founding principal, opened the doors with just 27 students – and more than a century later, Allanson continues to thrive as a small community school with a big heart.

The Role
Are you a student-centred teacher who combines strong relationships, explicit teaching and calm classroom leadership? Allanson PS is looking for a dynamic Year 5/6 teacher to join our small regional team for Semester 2, 2026.
This is an opportunity to work in a school where relationships matter, students are known deeply, and teaching has a direct and visible impact. We are seeking a teacher who is warm, highly organised, reflective, and committed to helping every student experience success.
Allanson PS is a Fogarty EDvance school with a clear focus on evidence-informed teaching and learning. Our instructional approach is built around the APS High Impact Teaching Model, incorporating explicit instruction, gradual release of responsibility, visible learning practices, daily review, and a strong understanding of the Science of Learning, Science of Reading and cognitive science.
We are seeking a teacher our Year 5/6 classroom who can provide calm, consistent and purposeful leadership for senior primary students. The successful applicant will be supported by a collaborative staff team and will contribute to a school culture that values high expectations, care, student voice, and purposeful engagement.
We are continuing to strengthen our curriculum through the use of knowledge-rich units, book studies, and learning experiences that add depth, meaning and engagement. As a ‘bush’ school, we also value environmental stewardship and use our local environment as a powerful context for learning. Students are encouraged to access the curriculum through real places, real problems and real opportunities — from local flora and fauna, sustainability and land care, through to community projects that help students see their learning as purposeful and connected to the world around them.
We are also implementing Classroom Mastery approaches and an explicit behaviour curriculum to ensure students are taught the routines, behaviours and learning habits they need to thrive. We believe calm, predictable and well-taught routines create the conditions for students to feel safe, take risks in their learning, and achieve their best.
Allanson PS has a small but diverse teaching team, ranging from graduate teachers through to highly experienced educators. We value teamwork, professional learning, humour, flexibility, and a shared belief that all students can learn when they are given the right support, challenge and opportunity.
This position would suit a teacher who ideally:
places students at the centre of every decision;
builds strong relationships with students, families and colleagues;
uses explicit, evidence-informed teaching practices;
is confident teaching senior primary students;
values structure, routines and positive classroom culture;
is willing to contribute to a whole-school approach to teaching, learning and behaviour;
sees the local environment and community as rich opportunities for learning;
brings energy, professionalism and a genuine love of learning.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who wants to make a meaningful difference in a small regional school with a strong sense of purpose, community and momentum.
