Primary objective
Provide specialist advice on the Territory’s obligations under Commonwealth business taxation legislation and provide
support to the Principal Taxation Analyst and the Assistant Director Taxation Services to ensure efficient and effective
services are provided to clients. Research, establish and implement both internal taxation projects and those impacting all
of government’
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare and review policy documents, submissions and briefings on issues related to the Commonwealth’s business
taxation regimes.
2. Formulate, coordinate and introduce administrative practices to ensure that the Territory’s obligations under the FBT,
GST and PAYG legislation are fulfilled.
3. Develop and provide appropriate training programs for staff and clients
4. Assist the Principal Taxation Analyst to provide advice to the Assistant Director Taxation Services and Director Finance
Services by identifying potential initiatives to enhance the delivery of taxation services.
5. Provide specialist advice to Agencies and Government on complex business taxation issues relating to the unique
circumstances of the Territory.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including the effective use of consultation, advisory,
presentation /training and networking skills.
2. Extensive knowledge of indirect taxation, particularly FBT and GST and how it applies to the public sector.
3. Proven ability to represent the agency and effectively liaise with senior personnel within government.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of corporate governance, accountability and develop and implement policies and strategies.
5. Proven ability to develop and update procedures in line with taxation legislation, including transactional audit of taxation
treatment and reconciliation.
6. Demonstrated capacity to plan, coordinate and manage multiple projects, readily adapt to changing circumstances and
manage a range of tasks to achieve deadlines.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
8. Demonstrated work ethic and attitude which aligns with DCDD values of commitment to service, innovation, ethical
practice, accountability, impartiality, diversity and respect.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications majoring in accounting or a related field.
2. Membership of an appropriate recognised professional body.
3. Understanding of the NT Government’s frameworks, legislation, policies and operations.
