Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg, a leading pan-European private equity firm with deep expertise in healthcare, focused on a select set of subsectors, including pharmaceutical services and technology, medtech and related services, life science tools and diagnostics.

This decision follows a thoughtful evaluation as part of Thermo Fisher’s ongoing business strategy to actively manage and strengthen our portfolio.

We expect the transaction will be completed in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory approvals. Until the transaction is complete, Thermo Fisher will continue to operate the business.

If you join the microbiology business prior to the close of the transaction, your employment is expected to transition to Astorg.

How will you make an impact?

Are you a microbiology professional with a passion for translating scientific expertise into commercial success? Join us as a Key Account Manager and take ownership of strategic partnerships across the clinical, pharmaceutical, and applied microbiology sectors throughout Australia and New Zealand.

In this role, you will leverage your understanding of microbiology workflows, laboratory environments, and industry challenges to build trusted relationships with key customers. You’ll work closely with clinical labs, pharma organisations, and applied market leaders to deliver tailored solutions that drive both customer outcomes and business growth.

We’re seeking a commercially driven individual who combines technical microbiology expertise with strong account management experience, and who thrives in a customer-focused, solution-selling environment.

This position can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane, with responsibility for expanding our Microbiology (MBD) portfolio across the ANZ region.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key accounts across clinical, pharmaceutical, and applied markets.
Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, addressing their needs and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Develop and implement strategic account plans to achieve sales targets and business objectives.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing key accounts and potential new clients.
Conduct regular meetings with key accounts to review performance, address concerns, and identify opportunities for growth.
Collaborate with the strategic partnerships team to develop and execute sales strategies and campaigns.

Market and Product Knowledge:

Strong background in microbiology
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, market developments, and competitor activities.
Maintain a deep understanding of the company's microbiology products and services.
Provide technical support and product training to key accounts as needed.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with internal teams, including marketing, product development, and customer support, to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Communicate customer feedback and market insights to relevant departments to drive product and service improvements.
Prepare and present regular reports on account performance, sales activities, and market trends.

Customer Relationship Management:

Utilize CRM tools to manage and track customer interactions, sales activities, and account information.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all account-related activities and communications.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales or account management within the microbiology, clinical, pharmaceutical and applied markets.
Proven track record of managing key accounts and achieving sales targets.
Strong understanding of microbiology products and applications.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Willingness to travel as required.
