Job Description
As a Research Fellow, you won’t just analyse data - you’ll drive impact. You will play a central role in advancing our mission: producing high-quality research, publishing influential findings, and securing competitive grants that expand of our work. This is an opportunity to contribute to research that matters, work that informs policy, strengthens justice systems, and makes communities safer.
The Research Fellow position is a member of the School of Applied Psychology, Griffith Health Group. The Research Fellow will work on and provide high level assistance to support the overall progress of the research deliverables of the research projects through development of research outputs, and any other related tasks as indicated by the Chief Investigator.
In this role you will;

Deliver advanced analyses using integrated police datasets to generate insights that reduce serious violent and sexual harm.

Develop risk assessments to identify people who commit serious violent and sexual harm.

Drive publications, reports, and grant proposals that translate complex findings into actionable strategies for justice and public safety partners.

Mentor emerging researchers, supervise project staff, and uphold rigorous ethical and professional standards across all research activity.
This is a fixed term (12 months), full time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site university you may be required to work across other locations.
Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1 range $91,705 - $107,420 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $107,295 - $125,682 per annum.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have;

Strong knowledge of serious offending, ideally supported by practical experience working with offenders or victims.

Proven ability to analyse large datasets using statistical methods (experience with R is highly desirable).

Demonstrated track record in producing peer-reviewed publications, research reports, or evidence‑based insights.

Experience mentoring students or supervising research assistants, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Strong understanding of research ethics, data governance, and safe handling of sensitive or criminal justice datasets.
