About the Speech Pathology department
We have over 30 speech pathologists working across all three sites of Austin Health, in acute care, sub-acute care, rehabilitation, bed substitution and community programs. We function as one department and work in clinical teams in a supportive, friendly environment. Our work includes clinical services, research, quality and improvement, staff and student education.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Speech Pathologist to join our team. The position is based within our Acute work stream and will work as part of the Acute care team under the guidance of the Grade 4 stream leaders.
A regular day will see you:
- Undertaking swallowing and communication assessments
- Assisting with instrumental assessments
- Mentoring/supervising a Grade 1 Speech Pathologist or Allied Health Assistant
- Participating in a quality activity
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Relevant degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent and eligibility for certified practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia
- Experience in the assessment and management of patients with a wide range of neurological and medical diagnoses
- Experience in the assessment and safe management of dysphagic patients with varying aetiologies
- Ability to identify appropriate patients who would benefit from instrumental swallowing assessment
- Flexibility and independence in caseload management, in particular an ability to manage a busy and varied caseload
