The Staff Specialist will be part of a team responsible for provision of specialist palliative care services in ISLHD. Primary work location would be within Illawarra and the successful applicant will be working with other palliative care staff specialists to provide expert service to inpatients (Bulli District Hospital, Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital and Coledale hospital), Illawarra community and outpatients (clinic at Dapto community Health centre) within ISLHD. There maybe requirements to provide remote palliative care medical support to patients residing in Shoalhaven via the use of telehealth on a as required basis. The staff specialist will be part of an on-call afterhours roster that provides afterhours telephone support to the whole ISLHD district. The staff specialist will support the development of palliative care services, facilitate a culture of learning, and support research within the department.

Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) or on significant progress towards fellowship.

Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
