The Opportunity
At Vocus, we’re building the next generation of Private Wireless (4G/5G) networks—and we’re looking for a RAN Engineer to join our growing team.
Based at our Mitcham Data Centre location, this is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience across the full radio network lifecycle, including design, deployment, integration, and optimisation.
You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, building technical capability in enterprise and mission-critical wireless environments.
What you’ll be doing
- Support the design, configuration, and deployment of Private Wireless RAN solutions
- Assist with site integration and commissioning, validating radio parameters and connectivity
- Perform basic troubleshooting of RAN issues with guidance from senior engineers
- Contribute to radio optimisation activities, including performance analysis and tuning
- Assist with site surveys, testing, and field activities where required
- Apply RF planning fundamentals to support coverage and capacity planning tasks
- Prepare technical documentation, including design packs, test reports, and as-built records
- Monitor network performance and escalate issues appropriately
- Collaborate with Core, Transmission, and support teams to enable end-to-end delivery
- Participate in deployment activities and scheduled site visits
- Continuously build knowledge through training and development opportunities
- Follow engineering standards, processes, and safety requirements
What you’ll bring
- Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar
- Basic understanding of mobile network architecture (4G/5G)
- Foundational knowledge of RF principles (propagation, interference, signal strength)
- Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork capability
- A genuine desire to learn and develop in telecommunications
- Internship or project experience in telecommunications or wireless networks
- Exposure to RAN vendors such as Nokia or EricssonUnderstanding of RAN parameters and optimisation concepts (PCI, handovers, power settings)
- Familiarity with drive test or RF planning tools (e.g. TEMS, Nemo)Exposure to Linux or scripting (Python)Understanding of Private Wireless network concepts
