Mechanical Engineer
Overview of position
Responsible for providing mechanical engineering support and expertise across plant reliability, maintenance, operations and project activities to ensure safe, efficient and reliable plant performance.
Apply sound engineering principles and technical judgement to develop, assess and implement engineering solutions to support asset integrity and reliability.
Contribute to project delivery by supporting scope development, technical reviews, scheduling coordination, and risk identification, ensuring engineering outcomes are achieved safely, efficiently.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support to operations, maintenance, and project teams to ensure safe, reliable and efficient plant performance.
- Develop and review mechanical designs, specification, calculation and technical documentation in accordance with applicable standards and requirement (e.g. AS, ASME, API…)
- Provide technical support, recommendations and advice associated with mechanical engineering, to the group when required.
- Design, develop and test a range of mechanical systems and equipment for the plant operation including developing specifications for manufacturing and installing new or modified mechanical components and systems.
- Conduct engineering evaluations of plant layout, equipment capacity, and system performance to improve operational efficiency and utilisation.
- Analyse mechanical failures and maintenance data to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare and define equipment specifications, material selection, and process requirements to support procurement and fabrication activities.
- Create and review engineering standards, procedures, and inspection criteria for installation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Monitor plant performance through data analysis and inspections to ensure optimal operating conditions and compliance with mechanical design intent.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of plant operations.
- Provide technical input into Management of Change (MOC) to ensure engineering changes are properly assessed, documented and implemented.
- Participate in hazard identification and risk management activities including HAZID, HAZOP, engineering risk review, etc.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure mechanical works meet design, safety, quality and compliance requirements.
- Supervise project works with emphasis on safety, compliance to site procedures, quality and accuracy of work.
- Support installation, commissioning, and handover of mechanical equipment and system.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with stake holders across operations, maintenance, and project functions.
- Develop, implement and continue to improve the site's engineering program, which includes preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance activities, Standard Work Instructions, inventory management, lubrication, training and development plans.
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent tertiary qualifications as well as proven experience in project engineering roles.
Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, equipment, materials, and processes relevant to refining or heavy industrial plant operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of change management procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of project management.
Demonstrated knowledge of incident investigation methods.
Knowledge of legislation that may impact on project planning, including but not limited to requirements for building approvals, RPEQ, MHF licencing, environmental licencing and workplace health and safety.
Proven application of engineering practices and activities relating to mechanical engineering and capital project within industrial environments.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Design & Engineering Tools (AutoCAD, Navisworks, AutoPIPE, Space Gass, Solidworks simulation)

Experience
- Experience supervising and coordinating mechanical works, including guiding small to medium teams to ensure compliance with engineering, safety, and quality requirements.
- At least two years of practical experience in mechanical engineering within construction, manufacturing, or process plant environments (or similar industrial settings), involving design support, installation, commissioning, or maintenance of mechanical systems.
Pay: $58,915.71 – $148,476.27 per year
