The Counsellor Level 4 Clinical Leader role provides a key opportunity to deliver high-impact, trauma-informed care to children, young people and families affected by abuse, neglect and violence. The position leads a specialised counselling team, overseeing intake, assessment, intervention and case coordination, while ensuring a child-centred, family-focused approach across the service. It plays a critical role in strengthening clinical leadership, supporting staff through supervision and professional development, and driving quality improvement and service planning initiatives. By enabling timely access to specialised support, improving coordination across health and partner agencies, and ensuring high standards of care, the role directly contributes to improved safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes for vulnerable clients, while enhancing service efficiency and system-wide care delivery.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is an experienced and confident clinical leader with extensive post-graduate experience in counselling and working with complex child protection matters, including trauma, violence and neglect. They will demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning, the ability to manage high workloads and make sound independent decisions in challenging environments. Strong leadership capability is essential, including experience in supervising and mentoring staff, supporting professional development and fostering a high-performing team. The role requires excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and advocacy skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across health services, government and community agencies. A strong understanding of relevant legislation, evidence-based practice and trauma-informed care is critical, alongside a commitment to continuous quality improvement, service development and delivering high-quality, client-centred outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

A Social Work degree which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Completion of four-year sequence of accredited undergraduate study in the discipline of psychology (or equivalent completed overseas or Bachelor or Masters of Counsellors degree with full registration to PACFA or ACA.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills of child protection issues including the relevant legislation and guidelines and the appropriate response for clinical practice and the management of child protection issues.
Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision to counsellors and students and expert advice/consultation to other professionals in relation to counselling and clinical issues.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P. Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
