The work area
RevenueWA collects revenue on behalf of the Government and pays grants and subsidies to Western Australians. Although a business unit within DTF, the Commissioner of State Revenue is an independent statutory role and is personally responsible for the administration of State taxation and grant laws by RevenueWA staff. This administrative function covers the application of duties, land tax and payroll tax laws, as well as carrying out compliance audits and investigations, and developing revenue related legislation. RevenueWA increases taxpayer awareness through education programs and manages the legislative appeals process.
The Department of Treasury and Finance currently operates under two sets of organisational values, following its formation on 1 July 2025. In time, as we settle in our new structure and culture, we will collaboratively develop a unified set of values that represent who we are as the Department of Treasury and Finance.
The role
The Investigations Officer / Senior Investigations Officer is responsible for conducting audits and investigations to ensure compliance with RevenueWA legislation. The role involves providing guidance to taxpayers, grant recipients and their representatives on appropriate compliance methods, as well as preparing detailed reports with final recommendations based on audit and investigation outcomes.
This role is available for up to 12 months, with the possibility of further extension(s).
The position is structured such that if a person is appointed to the Investigations Officer position at a Level 4 classification, they will have the opportunity to be reclassified to a Senior Investigations Officer, Level 5 providing their behaviour and technical expertise have developed over a period of time to the extent that they can satisfy certain competencies at the higher level (i.e. reclassification is not automatic).
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will be a motivated values driven professional who:

- has good research, analytical and problem-solving skills; and
- is a team player who can manage their own time and tasks effectively. Having experience resolving customer conflict and negotiating outcomes is beneficial.
The position operates in Personal Leadership context. This means that you are required to demonstrate personal accountability for delivering excellence and support your team and agency in delivering strategic goals. You will be expected to build and nurture relationships and be willing to seek feedback and learn.

The Investigations Officer positions are criteria progression positions, these positions may be filled at Level 4 or Level 5 depending on how the essential criteria are met.
Suitable applicants may be required to supply and maintain their own approved vehicle with a Motor Vehicle Allowance payable for business use as authorised by the Director Compliance.
