Maintenance Fabricator (Full Time)

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Fabricator to join our maintenance team at our South Windsor poultry processing facility. This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced fabricator with strong welding and mechanical maintenance capabilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fabrication, repair, modification, and preventative maintenance of plant equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient production operations within a fast-paced abattoir environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform fabrication and welding work on machinery, equipment, structural components, guards, platforms, and plant infrastructure.
- Carry out MIG, TIG, and arc welding, cutting, grinding, fitting, and assembly work to a high standard.
- Fabricate and modify plant components to improve reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to maximise equipment uptime and minimise production disruptions.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns with effective fault finding and timely mechanical repairs.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, and replace mechanical components including bearings, chains, shafts, conveyors, pumps, and motors.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication plans, and technical schematics.
- Operate workshop machinery and fabrication equipment including welders, lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, shutdown maintenance, and plant upgrades.
- Support maintenance improvement projects and custom fabrication works across the site.
- Assist with basic electrical fault finding where required and within competency.
- Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime and support operational targets.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and fabrication records.
- Participate in shutdowns, major maintenance activities, and after-hours breakdown support as required.
- Follow all WHS, GMP, food safety, and site safety requirements.
Skills & Experience
- Trade qualification in Engineering Fabrication, Boilermaking, Fitting & Machining, or similar trade.
- Strong welding and fabrication experience within manufacturing, processing, or heavy industrial environments.
- Experience in plant maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans.
- Experience using workshop machinery and fabrication tools safely and effectively.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic electrical knowledge or exposure highly regarded.
- Experience within food processing or abattoir environments advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good understanding of WHS and GMP standards.
- Flexibility with start times, overtime, and occasional Saturdays.
- Full working rights in Australia.
- Forklift, EWP, confined space, or working at heights tickets advantageous.
