The Opportunity
The Demi Chef role at Q Station supports the delivery of high-quality food and guest experiences at the Boilerhouse Restaurant. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to working with the kitchen team to maintain service standards, support smooth kitchen operations and contribute to Q Station’s signature guest experience.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensure food quality at the Boilerhouse Restaurant meets Q Station standards by consistently preparing dishes in line with recipes, menu specifications, portion control, taste and presentation requirements.
- Complete mise en place and preparation tasks in line with daily service requirements, function sheets, menus and management direction.
- Contribute to the smooth operation of the kitchen while on shift, escalating issues to the Sous Chef where required.
- Follow and support the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for all dishes, in collaboration with the Sous Chef.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness at all times, including correct food handling, storage, labelling, dating and stock rotation practices.
- Complete temperature checks, cleaning records and Food Safety Program documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
- Ensure dietary requirements, allergen requests and special guest needs are handled carefully and escalated where required.
- Assist with the ordering of fresh produce and dry goods for kitchen use, as directed by the kitchen leadership team.
- Assist with receiving deliveries, checking quality and quantity of goods, and escalating any supplier or produce concerns.
- Monitor stock levels and contribute to wastage control through appropriate preparation, portion control, storage and stock rotation.
- Contribute to maintaining and improving budgeted food costs by minimising waste and using ingredients efficiently.
- Train junior kitchen team members, apprentices or kitchen attendants where required.
- Maintain professional communication with kitchen, front-of-house and other hotel departments during service.
- Provide courteous and professional service where interacting with guests, promptly escalating guest complaints or concerns to the Sous Chef where required.
- understanding of effective ordering through sound stock, cost and inventory controls.

Why you should apply
You have;
- Relevant qualifications and at least 1 year of full time relevant work experience
- A love for great food, with a passion for creating memorable food experiences that reflect quality, creativity and care.
- Proven experience in a Demi Chef, Commis Chef or similar hands-on kitchen role.
- Strong à la carte restaurant experience, ideally within a standalone restaurant, hotel, hospitality or high-volume dining environment.
- Sound technical cooking skills, with the ability to prepare, cook and present dishes to a consistent standard.
- Professional and personable, with strong communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.
- Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills, particularly in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Willingness to learn, take on feedback and contribute ideas that support menu quality and kitchen performance.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise work and support smooth service delivery during busy periods.
- Ability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
- High attention to detail, with a strong commitment to food safety, cleanliness, presentation and service standards.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, a Food Handler certificate.
