The opportunity
A rare opportunity has opened up to join our Natural Systems Team as an Environmental Officer on a temporary basis.
Sitting within our Natural Systems, Environmental Strategy Team, this role is pivotal in providing project management of Council’s key environmental strategies, policies, projects and programs in respect to sustainability, biodiversity and environmental management. Working within the Environmental Strategy Team, you will manage and support the delivery of a diverse range of projects that help enhance sustainability outcomes and environmental management across Port Stephens.
With high levels of project management and interpersonal skills, you will collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders and the community to navigate environmental planning and regulatory frameworks, while contributing to initiatives such as Council’s Coastal Management Program, Emission Reduction Action Plan and other strategic environmental projects.

This is currently a temporary opportunity to support an organisation process currently underway, therefore the position is estimated to continue until December 2026 or until the end of the organisation process, whichever occurs first.
- This is a temporary opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
- Base Salary Range: $82,208 - $96,718 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% superannuation + retention allowance
- You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

- A degree or qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or demonstrated equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge across the key environmental sustainability areas of emissions, water, waste, biodiversity and climate adaptation.
- Proven experience in the development, implementation, and delivery of environmental projects. Such as, environmental sustainability strategies, policies, and programs, including end-to-end project and contractor management, tendering, procurement, and budget control.
- Demonstrated strong communication and customer services skills
- Current Drivers Licence.
