We are currently seeking motivated and customer-focused professionals to join our Development Assessment and Building Certification Team in either a Building Surveyor or Cadet Building Surveyor capacity.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of residential, commercial and industrial developments while contributing to the growth and development of one of regional Australia’s fastest growing inland cities.

Council has one role available within the Development Assessment and Building Certification Team, being a Building Surveyor or a Cadet Building Surveyor as detailed below.

Building Surveyor

Commencing salary of $91,592.28 gross per annum with the opportunity to progress to $109,910.84 + superannuation (12%)
An additional annual Accreditation Allowance

- Building Surveyor - unrestricted (A1 level accreditation) = $6,000

Building Surveyor—restricted (all classes of building) (A2 level accreditation) = $4,000
Building Surveyor – restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) (A3 level accreditation) = $2,000

Support for ongoing professional development and progression through higher levels of Building Surveyor accreditation
Generous leave entitlements.

As the new Building Surveyor your responsibilities will include but not limit to:

As a Building Surveyor, you will play a key role in delivering high quality building assessment, certification and compliance services across the Local Government Area.

You will undertake assessments and inspections relating to:

Development Applications (DA)
Construction Certificates (CC)
Complying Development Certificates (CDC)
Occupation Certificates
Building information certificates
Plumbing and drainage works
Swimming Pool compliance applications

The role also involves stakeholder engagement, compliance and enforcement activities, mentoring junior team members, and providing professional advice to customers, builders, developers and consultants.

To be successful in this role, you will:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or a related discipline
Accreditation, or eligibility for accreditation, as a Building Surveyor (minimum Class 1 & 10), with higher levels of accreditation considered highly desirable
Demonstrated experience in building assessment and certification
Strong communication and negotiation skills
A customer-focused and solutions-oriented approach
A Class C Driver Licence and White Card

Cadet Building Surveyor

Commencing salary of $80,270.84 gross per annum with the opportunity to progress to $96,325.06 + superannuation (12%).
Potential for an additional annual Accreditation Allowance upon completion of cadetship and attainment of Building Surveyor—restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) accreditation (A3 Accreditation) = $2,000.
Access to Council’s Flexible Working Arrangements.
Support for ongoing professional development and progression through higher levels of Building Surveyor accreditation
Generous leave entitlements.

As a Cadet Building Surveyor, your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to commence or further develop a career in Building Surveying within local government.

As a Cadet Building Surveyor, you will receive hands-on experience and mentoring while undertaking supervised assessments and inspections relating to a range of development and certification activities.

You will work alongside experienced Building Surveyors and gain exposure to:

Building legislation and compliance
Development assessment processes
Site inspections
Customer and stakeholder engagement
Building certification practices

To be successful in this role, you will:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who:

Is enrolled, or eligible to enrol, in tertiary studies relevant to Building Surveying
Holds, or is eligible to obtain, Building Inspector Accreditation (A4)
Is committed to professional growth and ongoing learning
Demonstrates strong communication and teamwork skills
Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn
Holds a Class C Driver Licence and White Card
