We are seeking to establish a pool of Laboratory Technicians for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

The suitable applicants should be highly motivated and possess the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently, to support the effective operation of the Science Learning Area. They should provide advice and support to the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff to ensure curriculum requirements are met, including recommending suitable experiments and demonstrations to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

They will prepare chemicals, equipment and materials, design and construct teaching aids, and collect and care for living organisms for study purposes in compliance with chemical, physical and biological laboratory practices and legislative requirements.

The role includes organising preparation areas and classroom laboratories to ensure a safe and efficient learning environment for students and staff, and undertaking general housekeeping of chemicals, equipment (including maintenance and minor repairs) and other resources. The suitable applicants would manage laboratory stocks, including ordering supplies and equipment, liaising with suppliers, and assisting with stocktakes in accordance with Departmental guidelines.

They would also provide advice on the safe use, handling, storage and disposal of equipment, chemicals and biological materials, and may assist with budget monitoring, training of staff, and induction of new or relief laboratory technicians as required.

- Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated well developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
