The Opportunity
Reporting to the Project Manager - Buildings, this role is responsible for delivering reactive repairs, programmed maintenance and renewal works across Council buildings and facilities in line with adopted Asset Management Plans. The role undertakes a broad range of maintenance activities including carpentry, painting, concreting, plastering and fencing, while also coordinating specialist contractors where required. The Building Maintenance Officer supports compliance with relevant standards, safety requirements and quality expectations, assists with inspections and audits, and contributes to the ongoing presentation, functionality and security of Council assets.
The ideal candidate will hold a trade qualification in Carpentry, along with a current White Card, First Aid Certificate and Class C Driver Licence. You will bring demonstrated experience in building maintenance or a similar environment, including estimating and undertaking maintenance and minor building works. A builder’s licence, MR or HR licence, and tickets such as Working at Heights, Confined Spaces and Non-Friable Asbestos will be highly regarded.
To succeed in the role, you will need strong practical trade skills, sound knowledge of building maintenance practices and the ability to accurately interpret plans and technical documentation. You will be organised, proactive and capable of planning and prioritising work effectively, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer service. Well-developed communication skills, the ability to use computer systems and applications, and a collaborative approach to working with contractors, colleagues and stakeholders will be essential.
