The Role
The Financial Accountant is responsible for accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and grant acquittals. The role supports month-end processes, fixed asset management, audit preparation, and cash flow forecasting to ensure strong financial control and compliance.

Responsibilities:
Grant Acquittal & Financial Management
-
Maintain familiarity with relevant elements of funding agreements.
-
Ensure grant expenditures comply strictly with funding agreements, terms, and conditions.

Track receipt of Grant Funding and reconcile grant balances, track unspent funds, deferred revenue or other liabilities.
-
Compile and submit interim and final financial acquittals to funding bodies.
Fixed Asset Register Management
-
Maintain and update the organization’s fixed asset register in the ERP.
-
Process asset additions, disposals, sales, and revaluations as required.
-
Calculate and record monthly depreciation schedules according to asset useful lives.
-
Reconcile the subsidiary fixed asset ledger to the general ledger.
-
Update and manage Work in Progress (WIP).
Balance Sheet Reconciliation
-
Prepare comprehensive month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
-
Identify, investigate, and resolve any reconciling items and discrepancies promptly.
-
Ensure all balance sheet account reconciliations are supported by working papers, and compliant with audit requirements.
Reporting & Audit Preparation
-
Complete various Month End processes including posting journals, accruals etc.
-
Prepare Management Reports and detailed income and expenditure statements for Migrant and Community Services and other grant-funded programs.

Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for various business units, assist with annual statutory financial statements and other reporting requirements.

Compile data, analyse and provide written variance analysis narrative.

Coordinate with internal and external auditors, to finalise acquittals and annual audits, providing requested working papers and assisting to resolve audit queries.

Ensure financial transactions and reporting align with relevant compliance frameworks (e.g., ACNC guidelines or specific state treasury requirements).
BAS & Compliance reporting

Manage and reconcile Goods and Services Tax (GST) accounts, ensuring appropriate tax codes are applied to transactions.

Prepare and lodge accurate Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) within statutory deadlines.

Assist in preparation of Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns and maintain comprehensive FBT records for audits

Compile data for ABS and other surveys.
Workcover
-
Complete calculation for the rateable remuneration at the start and end of the financial year to determine premium costs.
Cashflow
-
Develop and update weekly cash flow forecast models to predict liquidity requirements.
-
Reconcile forecasted cash positions against actual cash balances and investigate material discrepancies to improve future forecasting accuracy.
Other duties
-
Identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to the Finance Manager.

Transition to new software programs should organisational requirements necessitate.

Provide cover for other roles as and when required.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance.
-
Active enrolment or involvement in CA/CPA program is desirable.
-
1-2 years relevant experience as a Financial Accountant/ similar role.
Experience
-
Previous experience and skills in accounting software (Care Systems and Prophix will be advantageous).

Experience in aged care or grant funded programs is desirable.
-
Demonstrated computer skills including accuracy and numeric skills.
-
Ability to speak Dutch and/or multilingual.
Essential Skills
-
Previous experience in a similar role, including reconciliations, compilation of reports, cash flow, grant acquittals.

Accounting experience within the aged care sector and/or a grant funded industry.

Experience in MS Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook and broad experience of a range of accounting software programs
-
The ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment.
