QA Engineer — Job Description

Summary

Designs and executes testing strategies to ensure software meets functional, performance, reliability, and quality standards before release.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and execute test plans, test cases, and test suites for functional, integration, regression, and system testing.
Design and implement automated test frameworks and scripts for unit, API, integration, and end‑to‑end tests.
Perform exploratory testing and usability testing to uncover edge cases and user‑facing issues.
Triage, reproduce, and document defects; create clear bug reports and work with developers to verify fixes.
Define and enforce quality gates, acceptance criteria, and testing standards across the development lifecycle.
Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and maintain test data, environments, and test orchestration.
Execute performance, load, stress, and reliability testing and analyze results to identify bottlenecks.
Validate security and compliance requirements in collaboration with security engineers.
Collaborate with product, engineering, and DevOps to plan releases, run pre‑release validation, and manage rollbacks.
Monitor production issues, participate in post‑mortems, and drive preventive quality improvements.
Maintain test documentation, checklists, and quality metrics dashboards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
2+ years experience in software QA, test engineering, or related role (adjustable by level).
Strong experience with test automation (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar) and API testing (Postman, REST-assured).
Proficiency in one or more scripting/programming languages (Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar).
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and version control (Git).
Knowledge of testing methodologies (unit, integration, E2E, black/white‑box), test design techniques, and bug life cycle.
Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with performance testing tools (JMeter, Gatling), security testing, and chaos testing frameworks.
Familiarity with test management and observability tools (TestRail, Zephyr, Allure, Grafana, Prometheus).
Experience testing microservices, distributed systems, mobile apps, or cloud‑native applications.
Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform), containerization (Docker), and Kubernetes.
Certifications in testing (ISTQB) or quality engineering practices.
