About the role:
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our team as Unaccredited General Surgical Registrars in 2027. This is an exceptional opportunity for aspiring surgeons to gain broad exposure to all aspects of surgical care while developing the skills and experience necessary for competitive entry into RACS SET and other Accredited Training Programs.

Classifications for this position will range from HM25 – HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12 per annum, pro rata for part-time.
What you will bring

Demonstrated experience applying medical knowledge towards sound clinical diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients

Demonstrated effective communication with patients, relatives, staff and colleagues

Classification of PGY4 or greater

Full working rights in Australia

Hold current AHPRA registration

MBBS or equivalent

About the General Surgery Units:
Breast/Endocrine Surgery:
The St Vincent’s Breast Surgery Unit treats patients with a variety of benign and malignant breast conditions, with the aim of providing holistic patient-centred care.
Our surgeons all have subspeciality breast surgical training, providing world class and up-to-date treatment. We specialise in the surgical management of breast cancer and rely on the expertise of a multidisciplinary team and innovative medical research to inform our tailored approach. This team includes breast and plastic surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, breast care nurses, pathologists, radiologists and our research coordinator, who all bring a wealth of expertise.
Colorectal Surgery:
The Colorectal Surgery team provides comprehensive care for patients with anorectal conditions, colorectal cancer, IBD, pelvic floor disorders, pilonidal sinus and disorders of bowel function.
Patients may be referred for abdominal pain, symptomatic conditions or history-based conditions (such as a family history of colorectal cancer).
Hepatobiliary + Upper GI Surgery:
St Vincent’s Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary (HPB) and Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) unit consists of 10 specialist surgeons and is accredited for post-fellowship training by both the Australian and New Zealand Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary (ANZHPBA) and Gastric and Oesophageal (AANZGOSA) surgical societies. All our surgeons are committed to excellence in patient care and adhere to a robust audit process. We closely monitor patient outcomes following surgery to ensure that we are achieving the best possible results for our patients and that they are consistent with international best practices.
We believe in a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to patient care and work in close collaboration with the departments of oncology and gastroenterology. Our surgical team is supported by a cancer nurse specialist, waiting list and unit support nurse, research unit in addition to a large complement of junior medical and allied health staff. Our surgeons also offer specialist support to several regional centres including Bendigo, Goulburn Valley Warrnambool and Gippsland.
