About Peer Motivation Pty Ltd
Peer Motivation is a trauma-informed NDIS support company supporting people impacted by trauma, disability, and mental health challenges across Queensland and Victoria (with a strong focus on regional and remote communities). Our work is grounded in safety, dignity and respect, choice and control, boundaries and professionalism, integrity and accountability, and learning and growth.
The role (and why this job matters)
As a Trauma Support Worker, you will provide practical, rights-based support that helps participants feel safe, build capacity, and live with more independence and dignity.
This role is important because many participants have experienced complex trauma, system harm, and repeated invalidation. Consistent, reliable, trauma-informed support can be the difference between:
· A person feeling unsafe and isolated vs. connected and supported
· Escalation and crisis vs. early support and prevention
· “Just surviving” vs. building skills, confidence, and choice
Key responsibilities
You will work within NDIS, Mental Health and organisational policies, and within the support worker scope (non-clinical). Tasks may include:
· Providing trauma-informed, participant-led support aligned to goals and preferences
· Supporting daily living tasks (as per plan) such as routines, appointments, shopping, meal prep support, and household tasks
· Community access and social participation (building confidence, reducing isolation)
· Supporting emotional regulation and distress tolerance using trauma-informed strategies (within scope)
· Using respectful communication and clear boundaries
· Supporting participants to communicate needs, make choices, and build independence
· Implementing safety plans and escalating risk concerns promptly (as trained)
· Accurate, factual documentation/progress notes (written as if the Client may read)
· Incident reporting and escalation (minor/moderate/major) in line with policy
· Working collaboratively with the team, families (where appropriate), and other services
· Maintaining privacy, confidentiality, and professional conduct at all times
Skills required
· Strong alignment with trauma-informed practice: calm, respectful, non-shaming approach
· Reliability and consistency (punctuality, clear communication, follow-through)
· Ability to stay regulated under pressure and respond safely to distress
· Excellent boundaries and professional judgement
· Clear written communication for progress notes and incident documentation
· Ability to work independently in the community and follow systems/processes
· Cultural safety, inclusion, and a rights-based mindset
Skills beneficial
· Experience supporting people with psychosocial disability, complex trauma, ASD/ADHD, or behaviours of concern (within a trauma-informed framework)
· Experience with community access, capacity building, and goal-focused support
· Knowledge of NDIS Practice Standards and the NDIS Code of Conduct
· Confidence using apps/systems for rostering, notes, and incident reporting
· Lived experience and/or strong understanding of trauma, disability, and recovery (with professional boundaries)
Qualifications & compliance requirements
To be considered, you must have (or be willing to obtain promptly):
· Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or relevant state equivalent)
· Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
· Current Yellow Card (Disability Worker Screening / relevant state requirement, if applicable)
· Current First Aid and CPR certification
· Current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle (role dependent)
· Smartphone and ability to use basic apps for rostering/notes
· Evidence of right to work in Australia
Highly regarded:
· Certificate III/IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or similar
· Additional trauma-informed training (or willingness to complete Peer Motivation training)
