Where you'll be working
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

What you'll be doing
The CCLHD Unaccredited Trainee in Nephrology provides expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Renal Medicine departments. They practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Nephrologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to kidneys and the urinary tract.
Unaccredited trainees participate in outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings including hospital facilities and private consulting rooms. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.
Close and effective liaison with consultants will allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
The unaccredited trainee in renal medicine is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:
- Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
- Be able to work co-operatively as a member and contributor in a complex multi-disciplinary team, including pro-active participation in team meetings and decision-making processes.
- Be able to provide and participate in performance monitoring.
