Primary objective
The Director Information and Advice supports the strategic leadership of, and provides operational management to, the Information and
Advice Branch. The Information and Advice Branch underpins sustainable development in the Northern Territory through provision of
robust, consistent and timely scientific advice, development of suitable policy and strategic plans, and the development and maintenance
of integrated and accessible information systems for biodiversity data. While working across the Branch’s portfolio, the Director will have
a key role in overseeing the delivery of the Northern Territory Herbarium, ecosystem and vegetation mapping and spatial analysis programs
and Biocultural knowledge initiatives.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage the operation of the Information and Advice team to deliver outcomes aligned to the Division, Department and Government

strategic priorities, and work collaboratively to support the strategic direction of the Division.
2. Work collaboratively within the Flora and Fauna Division leadership team to support the strategic direction of the Division.
3. Manage allocation of resources to maximise the value of the Division’s biodiversity collections, data and information assets in informing

evidence-based decision-making.
4. Oversee the development of policy, strategies and spatial planning to support the maintenance of biodiversity values in the context of

sustainable development of the Northern Territory.
5. Contribute to development, implementation and maintenance of effective systems for the collation of relevant biodiversity information

from multiple sources, and to maximise the visibility and accessibility of biodiversity data to diverse stakeholders.
6. Provide robust, evidence-based and timely advice to the Senior Director, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer on issues

relevant to the functions and operations of the Information and Advice team.
7. Facilitate the provision of authoritative, consistent and judicious advice and guidance related to the management of biodiversity values

to regulatory agencies and diverse internal and external stakeholders
8. Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships within and external to government that contribute to the strategic priorities of

the Division and participate in intra- and inter-jurisdictional forums relevant to the functions of the Division.
9. Ensure a safe and positive workplace culture and environment through effective workforce management and capability development,

and compliance with applicable policy and regulation including workplace health and safety requirements.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Relevant tertiary qualification in ecology, environmental management or other relevant disciplines.
2. Highly effective team management skills with demonstrated strategic management skills to prioritise workloads, develop staff, manage

performance, deliver high quality outcomes against strategic priorities and manage organisational change.
3. Demonstrated experience in the use of strategic approaches to the application of complex biodiversity information in environmental

management, spatial planning and/or regulatory decision-making.
4. Demonstrated high level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with capacity to communicate clearly across cultural and

professional boundaries.
5. Demonstrated capacity to direct and undertake planning and analyses, synthesise complex information and deliver authoritative,

balanced advice in formats suitable to a variety of stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain productive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external

stakeholders.
7. Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing and

changing priorities.

Desirable
1. Well-developed knowledge of the biodiversity, natural resource management, and environmental regulatory context of the Northern

Territory and the role of the Flora and Fauna Division in contributing to the strategic priorities of the Territory.
2. Expertise in the development and maintenance of spatial information management systems.
