We take locally sourced plastic waste, sort it, clean it, shred it, and turn it into new products. This diverts waste from landfill and gives it a new life, creating a truly circular economy. Our team is a passionate group of creators on a mission to redefine what recycling and manufacturing can look like in Australia.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Sheet Operations Lead to join our hands-on manufacturing team.

Sheet manufacturing is a critical and growing part of our operation — we currently convert 13 tonnes of recycled HDPE plastic into sheet material every month, and we're scaling up. This is a ground-floor role with a real pathway into management.

The successful applicant will take ownership of sheet production scheduling and management working closely with both the factory floor team and our design department to ensure our sheets look and feel as per their design.

Working with 100% recycled plastic comes with unique challenges — every batch of incoming waste behaves differently, and no two production runs are identical. We need someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and sees variability as an opportunity to problem-solve and optimise the efficiency of the sheet manufacturing process.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Loading and operating the sheet press — running daily sheet runs with consistency and care
Mixing and preparing raw materials across Defy's full range of recycled plastic recipes and colour formulations
Owning the production schedule for all sheet pressing operations (~13 tonnes/month output)
Collaborating with the design team to understand project requirements and plan production accordingly
Coordinating workflow with the broader factory team, communicating timelines and flagging material or production issues
Identifying and implementing process improvements to maximise throughput.
Maintaining and developing systems, documentation, and a tidy, safe workspace
Minor product finishing and assembly tasks as needed
Quality control across our full product range — sheets, moulded goods, furniture and more

MUST HAVES

Sharp eye for detail — this is non-negotiable across everything we make
Strong organisational skills — able to manage complex schedules and multiple concurrent tasks
Reliable, punctual, and a genuine team player
Physically fit and comfortable with regular manual handling, including lifting up to 20kg
Good written and verbal communication skills across factory and design teams
Proactive, problem-solving mindset with a keen eye for efficiency in a dynamic production environment
Must hold valid Australian work rights or appropriate visa to work in Australia

NICE TO HAVES

Experience in a factory, workshop, or trade environment (we'll train the right person)
Experience operating or maintaining heavy industrial machinery
Forklift license
Genuine interest in materials, sustainability, or making things
Basic hand tool skills
