About the Opportunity
Maitland Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Unit Manager to lead our General Surgery and Urology unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident clinical leader to support an established team while continuing to strengthen a culture of collaboration, excellence and patient-centred care.
Working within a busy surgical environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care while supporting the professional development, wellbeing and capability of the nursing team.
You will work closely with medical, allied health and other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure patients receive care throughout their hospital journey.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership across the General Surgery and Urology unit.
You will:
- Lead, support and nurture an established nursing team.
- Promote a positive, respectful and collaborative workplace culture.
- Oversee the delivery of safe, evidence-based and patient-centred surgical care.
- Maintain a strong focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, medical staff, allied health and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Support workforce planning, rostering, performance development and staff capability.
- Identify opportunities to improve patient flow, clinical outcomes and service efficiencies.
- Provide visible and approachable leadership within the clinical environment.
- Support and implement service changes and quality improvement initiatives.
- Foster an environment where staff feel supported to learn, develop and achieve their professional goals.
About you
We are looking for an experienced Nurse Unit Manager who is passionate about surgical nursing and committed to leading a high-performing team.
You will bring:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Demonstrated experience in a Nurse Unit Manager role or equivalent clinical leadership position.
- Strong clinical knowledge and an interest in General Surgery and Urology.
- A genuine commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop nursing teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build strong relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and positive workplace culture.
The ability to lead with confidence, integrity and a collaborative approach.
