About Us
Everest Auto Repair is a trusted automotive workshop based in Mitchell, ACT, servicing the Canberra community with reliable, high-quality vehicle repairs and maintenance. From engine diagnostics and brake servicing to transmission work, electrical system diagnosis, and pre-purchase inspections, we pride ourselves on fast turnaround, honest service, and workmanship customers can count on. Our team works on a wide range of makes and models, and we're growing.
We're now looking for a skilled and motivated Motor Mechanic to join our workshop.
About the Role
As our Motor Mechanic, you'll be hands-on every day — diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and making sure every vehicle that leaves our workshop is safe and running at its best. You'll work alongside experienced technicians in a busy, well-equipped shop and play a key role in upholding the standard of service our customers expect.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in petrol and diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, cooling systems, and other vehicle components using both visual inspection and modern computerised diagnostic equipment
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, gearboxes, transmissions, steering mechanisms, drive shafts, axles, and related components, and carefully inspect each part for wear, damage, or signs of failure
- Repair or replace worn, faulty, or defective parts including bearings, gaskets, seals, belts, hoses, sensors, ignition components, and electrical wiring, reassembling mechanical components to manufacturer specifications and referring to service manuals where required
- Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including engine oil and filter changes, fluid top-ups, lubrication of moving parts, spark plug replacement, brake pad and disc servicing, and engine tune-ups to keep vehicles running smoothly and ensure compliance with emissions and pollution regulations
- Reassemble engines, gearboxes, and vehicle components after repair work, ensuring all parts are correctly fitted, torqued to specification, and reinstalled safely
- Test and adjust repaired mechanical and electrical components — including road-testing vehicles where appropriate — to confirm performance, safety, and reliability before handover to the customer
- Use diagnostic scan tools, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and manufacturer-specific software to interpret fault codes, analyse live data, and pinpoint the root cause of complex electronic, ECU, and sensor-related issues
- Inspect vehicles for safety and compliance, and where authorised, carry out ACT roadworthy inspections, issue roadworthiness certificates, or provide customers with a detailed report of the work required to bring the vehicle up to standard
- Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls, including on-site diagnosis, minor roadside repairs, and arranging recovery when needed
- Maintain accurate service records and job sheets, communicate clearly with the workshop supervisor and customers about the work performed, and keep the workshop clean, safe, and compliant with workplace health and safety requirements
What We're Looking For
- Australian Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent overseas qualification recognised in Australia)
- Relevant hands-on experience as a Motor Mechanic (minimum 2 years preferred)
- Sound knowledge of modern diagnostic tools, scanning equipment, and workshop systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical specifications
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A current Australian driver's licence
- ACT Roadworthy Inspector authorisation highly regarded (or willingness to obtain)
- Reliable, customer-focused, and takes pride in their work
What We Offer
- Competitive salary, in line with industry rates and the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award
- Full-time, secure employment with a stable and growing business
- Supportive team environment in a modern, well-equipped workshop
- Opportunities for ongoing skill development and career progression
