Uniform Safety Signs is one of Australia’s most established safety and traffic signage manufacturers — 35+ years in the industry, thousands of product lines, and a brand-new manufacturing facility in Thomastown built for growth.

We’re looking for a skilled Workshop Fabricator who takes pride in their craft, can work at pace, and wants to be part of a team that’s genuinely going places. If you’ve got solid fabrication experience and the right attitude, this could be a role you stay in for a long time — and grow into.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Production Team Leader, you’ll work hands-on across the full sign fabrication process — cutting, bending, laminating, and assembling a wide range of civil, traffic, and safety signs to Australian standards.

Your day-to-day will include:

Operating fabrication equipment including drop saw, CNC machining, Hanrob bender, brake press (box edges), riveting, laminating, grinding, and engraving
Reading and interpreting technical drawings and reviewing sign design files for accuracy before fabrication begins
Producing work to quality standards — conducting in-process checks and ensuring product meets relevant sign fabrication standards
Working collaboratively across a small team where helping out across tasks is part of the culture (some jobs require two people — teamwork matters)
Monitoring raw material levels and flagging replenishment needs with the Supply Chain Team Lead
Completing production records, shift reports, and operator-level maintenance
Championing safety — toolbox talks, hazard reporting, PPE compliance, and 3S housekeeping

ABOUT YOU

You’ll need:

3+ years’ experience in a fabrication workshop or fast-paced manufacturing/production environment
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings — dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications
Ability to follow and write procedures and work instructions
Strong numeracy and literacy for production documentation
A genuine commitment to quality, safety, and showing up reliably
Physical capacity for manual handling (lifting up to 20 kg, standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks)
Full Australian working rights

Bonus points for:

Sign manufacturing or sheet metal trade background
CNC operations experience, including nesting
Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or a comparable trade (carpentry, cabinet making, building and construction)
Forklift licence (LF)

A NOTE ON CAREER PROGRESSION

We’re actively building out our workshop team and the structure is evolving. As the operation grows into a team of three to four specialists, we intend to introduce a Leading Hand to coordinate production on the floor. If you’re someone who wants that responsibility over time, we’d love to hear from you.

THE ENVIRONMENT

This is a hands-on factory role in a working fabrication environment. Expect a fast-paced workshop with moving machinery, standing for most of the shift, and some noise and dust (all PPE provided). If you like being on the tools and doing solid work, you’ll fit right in.
