Full Job Description

The Hum is currently seeking a skilled, efficient, and passionate Cook to join our team. This is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week, based in Byron Bay, New South Wales (NSW).

The Hum is a vibrant cafe and casual dining venue located in the heart of Byron Bay, specialising in fresh, wholesome, and high-quality food and beverages. The venue offers a diverse menu featuring healthy breakfast and brunch options, smoothies, salads, burgers, and specialty coffee in a relaxed coastal setting.

We are known for our focus on fresh ingredients, excellent customer service, and welcoming atmosphere, The Hum prides itself on delivering quality dining experiences in a fast-paced and dynamic hospitality environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Cook to join our team at The Hum. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking menu items to a consistently high standard while supporting efficient kitchen operations in a busy cafe and casual dining environment.

As a Cook, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Prepare and cook a variety of cafe-style menu items including breakfast dishes, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and light meals;
Follow standard recipes, portion controls, and preparation procedures to maintain consistency and quality;
Operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and food prep equipment safely and efficiently;
Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portioning of all menu items in line with café standards
Support daily food preparation including batching, prep lists, and ingredient readiness for service periods
Monitor stock levels and assist with receiving, rotating, and storing kitchen supplies;
Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation of all kitchen areas and workstations;
Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth and timely service.

Skills & Experience – Who we’re looking for:

For this position, it is expected that you will possess the following qualifications/work experience:

Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or related qualification OR at least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of qualification;
Experience working in a café, casual dining, or high-volume breakfast and lunch service environment (highly regarded);
Strong time management with the ability to perform under pressure during busy service periods
High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining food quality, consistency and presentation;
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced café environment
Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations;
Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts including weekends and peak trading hours;
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to contribute to a collaborative kitchen equipment.
