Casual hourly rate: Teaching rate is $86.49 and the non-teaching rate is $66.29

Semester 2 dates: 13 July 2026 to 20 November 2026

Excellent office location - Franklin Street, Melbourne

The RMIT UP Foundation Studies Program is delivered to an Australian Year 12 comparable standard. It develops a mix of discipline knowledge, academic English and study skills in a supportive, flexible and learner-centred environment. It aims to assist students to become independent, critical and lifelong learners and to maximise their potential for success in an Australian university context.

About the role

In this position, you will be responsible for English teaching courses: Exploring Narratives, Comparative Texts, Creative Narratives at RMIT UP.

These courses are designed to assist Foundation students develop the skills and knowledge necessary for further tertiary studies.

Key subject themes include Narrative features, persuasive writing and literary devices, text and argument analysis, presentation skills and academic writing

About You

To be successful in this position you will have:

Essential

Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing Foundation Studies or equivalent courses

Experience in relevant industry and substantial discipline knowledge as it relates to this position

Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies

Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team

Demonstrated skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies

A recognised degree relevant to the course being taught plus:

A formal qualification in the delivery of education OR minimum two years’ relevant teaching experience, including breadth of experience in delivering to students from non-English speaking backgrounds.

The minimum requirements for teachers primarily responsible for academic English language subject areas are:

A recognised degree AND

An appropriate English language teaching qualification AND

2 years ESL/EFL teaching experience

Desirable

Experience teaching in a Foundation Studies or a year 12 equivalent program educating international students;

Experience teaching in a tertiary setting.

TESOL (English Language Teaching Qualification) for teachers responsible for
English subject areas.

Proven collegiality and the ability to share ideas

Knowledge of current pedagogical practices
