About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and organized Fleet Manager to oversee and coordinate the company’s logistics, warehousing, freight distribution, and supply chain operations. The role involves managing the movement and storage of goods, monitoring distribution performance, coordinating transport activities, and supporting efficient operational outcomes to ensure timely and reliable service delivery across the business.
Tasks Include:
- Organise and oversee the acquisition, allocation, maintenance, servicing and replacement of transport vehicles, equipment and fuel resources to support efficient fleet operations.
- Develop, implement and monitor fleet management strategies, policies and operational procedures to maximise vehicle utilisation, minimise downtime and support business objectives.
- Liaise with clients to determine transport and delivery requirements, provide advice regarding vehicle availability, transport solutions, service rates and operational obligations, and manage customer enquiries and complaints.
- Coordinate and monitor vehicle scheduling, freight movements, delivery timetables and transport activities to ensure efficient and timely service delivery across metropolitan and regional routes.
- Receive and manage transport bookings, customer orders and freight requests, and plan transportation schedules to meet operational requirements and client expectations.
- Ensure goods are stored, handled and transported in accordance with operational requirements and quality standards to maintain the integrity and condition of freight throughout the transport process.
- Arrange and oversee the collection, dispatch and delivery of vehicles, freight and transport equipment while ensuring compliance with company procedures and service commitments.
- Monitor fleet performance, vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules and operational costs, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain accurate business records relating to fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, fuel usage, transport schedules, freight movements and operational activities, and prepare management reports and operational statements.
- Coordinate transport personnel, drivers and support staff to ensure efficient allocation of resources and effective day-to-day fleet operations.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, transport regulations, vehicle maintenance obligations, fatigue management requirements and company operational policies.
- Monitor and review transport operations and fleet performance, identify opportunities for operational improvements, and implement strategies to improve service delivery, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications, experience and other requirements
Qualification and employment:
- A relevant AQF Diploma, bachelor's degree or higher qualification in business, management, transport management, logistics, fleet management, supply chain management, operations management, or another closely related field; OR Where the qualification is not highly relevant to the occupation, a minimum of five (5) years of relevant full-time work experience in fleet operations, transport management, logistics, freight distribution, vehicle operations, or related transport services, including at least two (2) years in a Fleet Manager, Transport Operations Manager, Logistics Manager, or equivalent supervisory or managerial role.
- Minimum one (1) year or relevant full-time experience in a Fleet Manager, Transport Operations Manager, Logistics Manager, or similar role within the transport, freight, logistics, distribution, or trucking industry.
Required Skills and Attributes
The successful applicant should demonstrate:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess fleet performance, transport operations, vehicle utilisation, and operational efficiency, and implement effective improvement strategies.
- Experience using fleet management systems, transport scheduling software, GPS tracking platforms, maintenance management systems, and operational reporting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare operational reports, fleet utilisation analyses, maintenance schedules, performance dashboards, and KPI monitoring frameworks.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, drivers, suppliers, maintenance providers, and senior management.
- Sound understanding of transport operations, fleet management principles, vehicle maintenance planning, freight logistics, route optimisation, and operational compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, fatigue management obligations, transport regulations, and industry compliance standards applicable to fleet and transport operations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced operational environment while managing multiple priorities and responding effectively to changing transport requirements.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational and leadership capabilities, and a demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, continuous improvement, and customer service outcomes.
Pay: $77,000.00 – $88,000.00 per year
