Staff Specialist in General Paediatrics, Armidale Rural Referral Hospital

The Paediatrics Department at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is entering an exciting phase of expansion and is now seeking to appoint 2 permanent fulltime Staff Specialists to join its team. Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is a Level 4 Paediatric Unit with 8 inpatient beds for children and young people till 18 years of age and a 2-bed special care nursery, supporting a level 4 maternity unit with 450 deliveries annually. You will join a workforce of 3 long standing Paediatricians with an increasing level of junior medical staff support. We pride ourselves on our collaborative team work to provide an excellent standard of care for our patients and their families.

The clinical work you will be doing requires you to have a broad scope skills from neonatal care ( > 34 weeks' gestation) to inpatient care of children and young people up to 18 years as well as general outpatients, involving complex medical, behavioural and developmental paediatrics The work we do is at times challenging but very rewarding and will allow you to work to the full scope of your practice as a regional general paediatrician. We can provide mentoring and support as you establish yourself as a key member of our team and develop your own career interests. So even if you are early in your career and feeling this a big leap of faith to take this step, we will ensure you have all the support you need.

Be rewarded with up to $10,000 in the first 12 months PLUS up to $10,000 each year thereafter in fortnightly payments under the Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.*

Mandatory requirements of this role include:

Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.
Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD

A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Paediatrics, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in General Paediatrics.
Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge.
Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public.
Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings.
Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities.
Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance.
Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health.
