Business Intelligence (BI) Developer — Job Description
About the role
We’re seeking a BI Developer to design, build, and maintain dashboards and reporting that turn raw data into clear business insights. You will work with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver reliable metrics, improve query performance, and ensure reporting is accurate and well-documented.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain BI dashboards, reports, and KPI scorecards (e.g., exec dashboards and departmental reporting).
- Develop and optimize data models for reporting (facts/dimensions, star/snowflake schemas).
- Write and tune SQL for data extraction, transformations, and performance optimization.
- Create semantic layers / measures (e.g., calculated fields, metrics definitions) and enforce consistent KPI logic.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into reporting solutions.
- Integrate data from multiple sources (data warehouses/lakes, CRM/ERP, APIs, flat files).
- Implement data quality checks and support troubleshooting of reporting discrepancies.
- Maintain documentation for datasets, metrics, dashboard logic, and data lineage.
- Support data refresh schedules, monitoring, and release deployments for BI assets.
- Provide ad hoc analysis and insights as needed to support business decisions.
Required qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in BI development or analytics engineering.
- Strong SQL skills (complex joins, window functions, query optimization).
- Experience building data models and reporting structures (dimensional modeling preferred).
- Proficiency with at least one BI tool such as:
- Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Looker, or similar
- Experience with at least one data platform/warehouse such as:
- SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or similar
- Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data transformation workflows.
- Strong analytical thinking and ability to validate data accuracy.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Python and/or data transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt) and/or orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow).
- Knowledge of DAX (Power BI) / LookML (Looker) / calculated fields and measure best practices.
- Experience with data governance concepts, role-based access control, and secure reporting practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD for BI assets and version control (Git).
- Experience with master data, metric governance, and KPI definition frameworks.

Pay: $9,167.45 – $11,667.93 per month
