We are currently looking for a permanent full time Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Report Developer to join our IT team.
About the role
Support the development and maintenance of high-quality Power BI reports and data solutions that enable business decision-making across the Law Society. The Junior BI Developer focuses on building foundational technical capability while contributing to the design, usability and visual effectiveness of reporting outputs. You will work closely with senior team members and stakeholders to translate requirements into clear, engaging and user-friendly reports. You will support continuous improvement of reporting standards while operating in line with organisational data governance and compliance requirements.
What you'll be doing

Reporting and Data Solution Delivery - assist in the design, development and maintenance of Power BI reports and dashboards to meet business requirements. Focus on report visual design, layout and usability to ensure they are intuitive, user-friendly and aligned with organisational design and usability standards. Apply visual design principles including layout, hierarchy, colour and accessibility to enhance report usability and user experience.

Data Management and Governance - apply data governance, security and privacy requirements in the development of reports. Apply data governance requirements and support compliance with organisational policies and privacy obligations and assist in report auditing and identifying data quality issues.

Technical Development and Optimisation - assist in developing and maintaining SQL queries, data transformations and Power BI models. Support testing and validation. Identify simple optimisation opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support - support end-user queries and escalate appropriately under the Business Intelligence team frameworks. Assist with requirement gathering and training.

Documentation and Standards -develop and maintain documentation including data definitions, business rules, and user guides. Enforce BI development standards, frameworks and best practices. Ensure that requirements, testing and approvals are appropriately recorded and documented.
- Project and Continuous Improvement Contribution -participate in projects as a supporting team member by taking responsibility for assigned tasks, engaging with user acceptance testing (UAT) and providing deliverables by due dates.

Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing -collaborate within the IT and broader Law Society of NSW teams and promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning across the team and organisation. Support knowledge transfer within the Business Intelligence team and engaging with peer review processes.
About you

Up to 2 years’ experience as a BI Developer (preferably in Power BI), data analysis or similar.

Completion of tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or equivalent.
Desirable:

Beginner to intermediate experience in SQL/T-SQL

Foundational knowledge of data concepts such as relational and non-relational databases, Data Warehouses and Data Lakes.

Exposure to Azure and other tools in the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).

Exposure to Canva design software.
-
Exposure to ticketing and project management tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.

Exposure to GIT version control management.
Skills:
- Analytical and problem-solving capability, with keen interest in understanding the underlying data and business rules.

Basic to intermediate technical capability in Power BI (Desktop & Service) and data visualisation tools.

Basic technical capability in SQL Server Management Studio and similar tools.

Ability to translate requirements into simple reporting outputs.

Ability to design clear, visually engaging and user-friendly reports.

About the team
The Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Report Developer sits within the Information Management function of the IT department, which delivers and supports enterprise systems, data and analytics capabilities across the organisation. You will operate within the Business Intelligence team and require frequent collaboration with data integration developers, application developers, business analysts and business stakeholders. You will contribute to the organisation’s data strategy, including establishing a single source of truth and improving data-driven decision-making.
