About the business/role/team
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to join our team, who can lead the data design and build for the Bank's fast settlement services data warehouse. You will take ownership of defining end to end data architecture, accountable for data solutions for this program of work. Experienced in supporting the transition from legacy systems to modern, scalable data solutions will be highly regarded. You will play a critical role in shaping the data landscape that underpins high-value, high-volume financial transaction processing.
In this role, you will be required to undertake the data design and build to ensure scalable, secure, and resilient data architectures that support real-time and batch payment processing, reconciliation, settlement, and regulatory reporting. You will work closely with business and IT stakeholders including solution architect, and application teams to ensure data solutions align with business objectives, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
You will lead the end-to-end data modelling/architecture, design and build across complex payment ecosystems, enabling accurate, timely, and auditable data flows across upstream transaction systems and downstream reporting platforms.
About the role
Contribute to defining the future-state data warehouse architecture and conceptual design.
Assess the current data warehouse, including data models, ETL pipelines, and data quality, and provide actionable recommendations.
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, business-aligned solutions.
Support solution scoping, estimation, and delivery planning.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams on data platforms and technologies.
Design scalable, high-performance data models and architectures to support real-time transaction processing, reconciliation, and settlement workflows.
Ensure data integrity, lineage, auditability, and compliance across the full payment lifecycle, meeting regulatory and risk control requirements.
Partner with application and enterprise architecture teams to align solutions with organisational standards and principles.
Drive adoption of modern data platforms, optimising data flows, reducing latency, and improving efficiency.
Maintain comprehensive data architecture artefacts, including data models, standards, and documentation.
About you
Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale data architectures (data warehouses, data lakes, Lakehouse patterns).
Strong SQL expertise with demonstrated ability to design and optimise complex data models and data pipelines.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms and distributed data ecosystems.
Deep expertise in data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) for both transactional and analytical systems (e.g. IBM Data Architect or similar tools).
Strong understanding of modern data platform design, including cloud-native, hybrid, and distributed architectures.
Experience with data integration patterns, including ETL/ELT, streaming, and event-driven architectures.
Ability to operate across both architecture and hands-on delivery, particularly within large-scale transformation or migration programs.
Experience building and supporting high-volume, low-latency data processing systems.
Solid understanding of BI and data engineering practices, including SDLC, testing (unit, integration, performance), and CI/CD pipelines.
