Sitting within our Technology function, you’ll blend hands-on engineering with leadership, guiding teams to modernise mainframe environments and connect them into cloud-enabled, API-driven ecosystems.
This is your opportunity to influence how we deliver reliable, secure and scalable solutions for our customers, while advancing our broader technology transformation. You’ll work closely with architects, engineers and product teams to ensure our platforms are fit for the future and aligned to our digital ambitions.
You will also be responsible for the following:
- Lead the design, development and optimisation of mainframe applications across COBOL, CICS, JCL and DB2 environments
- Drive the evolution of legacy platforms into modern, API-enabled and cloud-integrated solutions
- Own solution design and ensure technical delivery aligns with architectural roadmaps and engineering standards
- Champion emerging engineering practices including automation, DevSecOps and AI-assisted development
- Partner with architects and chapter leads to uplift code quality, testing standards and design patterns
- Contribute hands-on through development and proof of concepts to enable high-quality delivery outcomes
Important to your success – let’s grow together
You’re someone who takes ownership and looks for better ways to solve problems. You enjoy working with others, bringing clarity to complexity, and helping teams deliver meaningful outcomes for customers through collaboration and continuous improvement.
In order to be successful, you will have the following:
- Extensive experience in software engineering with a strong track record leading teams delivering complex, enterprise-scale systems across distributed and mainframe environments
- Deep hands-on expertise across core mainframe technologies ie, COBOL, CICS, JCL and DB2, with proven experience supporting and evolving mission-critical platforms
- Demonstrated experience modernising legacy applications into API-driven or cloud-integrated architectures, ideally within large transformation programs
- Strong understanding of DevOps and DevSecOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, automation, testing strategies and secure software delivery
- Broad technical capability across multiple layers including backend services, integration, infrastructure and cloud technologies such as AWS or container platforms
