About the Opportunity:
We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer – Substations to join our Energy & Resources team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver detailed electrical design work across a range of HV, EHV, AC, and DC substation projects throughout Australia and beyond. This role may be based out of one of our NSW, VIC or QLD offices.
Working within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will play a key role in delivering efficient and reliable substation solutions while contributing to project planning, design coordination, and client engagement. You will also support the growth and development of the substation team, providing mentorship and technical leadership across projects.
This position offers strong exposure to complex infrastructure projects, the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts, and the ability to shape team culture while contributing to high-quality project outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and performing detailed design of substations, including layouts, grounding, cable routing, AC/DC systems, and associated documentation
- Acting as a key technical authority on substation design, supporting internal teams and engaging with clients
- Preparing technical specifications for major equipment and supporting construction, testing and commissioning activities
- Supporting procurement processes and providing technical guidance throughout project delivery
- Contributing to proposals, project plans and estimates, including leading smaller bids
- Performing engineering studies such as power flow, short circuit, grounding, and insulation coordination
- Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure successful project execution
- Conducting site visits for scope development, design validation and construction support while promoting safety leadership
About You:
You are an experienced and technically strong electrical engineer with a passion for substation design and delivery. You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy mentoring others, and can confidently manage multiple projects and stakeholder relationships.
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in high voltage substation design and engineering, ideally within Australian utility environments
- CPEng (Engineers Australia) and RPEQ (for Queensland-based candidates) or working towards
- Strong experience in substation design, including primary plant and associated systems
- Exposure to engineering tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS or similar (desirable)
- Understanding of Civil/Structural and Protection & Control interfaces within substation projects
- Experience supporting testing and commissioning activities (desirable)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects
- Valid Australian driver’s licence
