Harrier Group is a fast-growing, family-owned Australian manufacturing and services group. Our flagship business, ATOM Modular, builds steel-framed modular buildings out of factories in New Gisborne (VIC) and Caboolture (QLD), and the group runs a few other trading businesses alongside it. The family that owns Harrier also runs it, so decisions get made fast and the team is close. We’re growing quickly and we want people who can keep up.
This is a hands-on Financial Controller role, reporting to our CFO and working closely with the CEO. You’ll keep the group’s numbers accurate and, just as importantly, make them useful to the people running the business. That means clear profitability by division and by project, a three-way forecast people can actually plan against, and reporting the board and managers can act on.
It’s a business-partnering role, not just a controllership. You’ll close the books accurately and fast, explain the numbers to people who aren’t accountants, lift the whole team’s financial literacy, and give the CEO and CFO the forecasting they need to make decisions. We want someone who goes looking for where we can make more money, and who automates the finance function so it can grow without growing the headcount.
Two things we’re serious about from day one:
- A strict 10-day close. Accurate management accounts within 10 business days of month-end, every month.
- Automating finance. Take the manual work out of our processes so the team stays lean and the close gets faster as we grow, not slower.
- Reporting profitability by division and by project, and finding where margin can be improved
- Owning a three-way forecast (P&L, balance sheet and cash flow) that you update weekly
- Presenting and explaining the financials clearly to the board, leadership and operators
- Coaching managers so they understand and can influence their own numbers
- Running a strict 10-day month-end close and holding it as we grow
- Automating finance processes in Odoo and across the wider stack
- Keeping the books accurate, clean and audit-ready, and looking after BAS, GST and statutory work
- CA or CPA qualified
- Proven Financial Controller experience (or a strong senior management accountant ready to step up) in a multi-entity business
- Experience across our mix of work: manufacturing, project, hire, and import & distribution accounting (strong in most, and able to get up to speed quickly on the rest, is fine)
- Solid three-way forecasting and financial modelling
- A real track record of automating finance work and bringing close times down
- A commercial head: able to spot profitability improvements and put numbers around them
- Confident explaining financials to people who aren’t accountants
- Hands-on ERP ownership (Odoo strongly preferred; NetSuite, MYOB Advanced or Business Central also fine)
- Good knowledge of Australian tax, GST and BAS
- A genuinely influential role with a direct line to the people who own and run the business
- The freedom to build and modernise the finance function, not just maintain it
- A fast-growing group where what you do actually moves the numbers
- A close, no-nonsense team that backs people to own their work
- Profit share bonus
- Performance bonus
- 3 meals provided per week
