About Us

Abergeldie is a majority locally owned contractor with 30 years’ industry experience across Australia and New Zealand. We design and deliver complex infrastructure in the Water, Bridges, Transport, Underground, Energy and Remediation sectors. Our portfolio includes dams, bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment facilities, rail infrastructure, mining infrastructure, electrical substations, marine works and pipeline rehabilitation - the essential infrastructure that builds better communities.

About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors to join our commercial team Sydney - taking a leadership role in the financial, contractual and commercial management of major water and civil infrastructure projects.

This is a senior position suited to someone who has demonstrated capability at a senior level, someone who brings depth of experience, sound judgement and the confidence to lead commercial outcomes across complex, multidisciplinary projects. You will oversee end‑to‑end commercial functions, mentor project teams and play a key role in driving project performance, risk management and commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Leading detailed cost planning, estimation, forecasting and financial reporting across major civil and water infrastructure projects
Overseeing procurement strategies, tender evaluations, contract preparation and high‑level contract administration
Providing authoritative commercial and financial risk assessments, and guiding project teams in implementing mitigation strategies
Managing complex subcontractor claims, variations, progress payments and commercial negotiations
Ensuring robust cost controls, accurate financial tracking and compliance with contractual obligations
Preparing and reviewing progress claims, payment schedules and commercial documentation
Coaching and supporting project engineers and quantity surveyors to uplift commercial capability across the business
Contributing to broader commercial strategy, continuous improvement and project governance

What You’ll Bring to the Team

A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
Extensive experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil and/or water infrastructure, ideally with Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor experience
Deep understanding of commercial frameworks, contract law, procurement processes and financial controls
Demonstrated ability to lead commercial functions on complex, high‑value projects
Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret technical information and translate it into accurate commercial insights
Proven experience managing subcontractor negotiations, variations, claims and dispute resolution
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build strong relationships across project teams
A proactive, strategic mindset with a commitment to delivering high‑quality commercial outcomes
