What does the job look like?
Looking to kick-start your career in a role where legal thinking meets real-world impact? We’re seeking a motivated, early-career professional to join our Workers Compensation team – ideal for recent law graduates, paralegals, or those who are keen to pursue a long-term career in legal and are eager to learn and grow.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will manage workers’ compensation claims within a self-insurance model, supporting employees through recovery and return to work. You will collaborate closely with legal advisors, rehabilitation providers, and internal stakeholders, gaining hands-on experience across claims management and legal frameworks, supported by structured training and mentorship.
This role is based out of Brisbane CBD.
Other duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Gathering and assessing evidence to support claims determinations
- Communicating with injured employees throughout the claims process and managing expectations
- Liaising with rehabilitation teams to support return-to-work outcomes
- Engaging with medical practitioners to understand injuries and recovery pathways
- Managing claims data within the Figtree system to meet Comcare regulatory requirements
- Supporting timely decision-making in line with legislative requirements (SRC Act)
- Assisting with reconsiderations and dispute management processes
- Ensuring payments, invoices, and claim documentation are accurate and compliant
- Responding to queries from regulators and supporting audits where required

- A foundational understanding of legal principles or a legal qualification (highly regarded but not essential)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage empathetically with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to gather, interpret, and work with evidence
- Confidence explaining decisions and the reasoning behind them
- High attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes and regulatory frameworks
- Resilience and emotional intelligence when managing sensitive situations
- Interest in the medical, rehabilitation, or health space
