The Orthotics department at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) is seeking to re-integrate Orthotic & Prosthetic technicians into our workforce for both inpatient and outpatient requirements. We are interested in hearing from both experienced O&P technicians looking for new challenges,and also newcomers to the O&P industry. All levels of experience are encouraged to apply.

The role is advertised at either Allied Health Assistant (AHA) or Technical Officer grade, depending on the individual applicant’s prior experience.

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time until 10 August 2027 (with possibility of ongoing employment)

Where you'll be working
Royal North Shore Hospital Orthotics Department

What you'll be doing
The Allied Health Assistant (Orthotic) provides technical assistance to orthotists and the manufacture of a range of orthotic and related devices for patients referred to the Orthotics Department.

The Grade 1 Orthotic Technician is responsible for providing technical support to orthotists and the manufacture of a comprehensive range of orthotic and related devices for patients referred to the Orthotic Department.
This includes fabrication, adjustment, modification, maintenance and repair of orthoses as requested by the orthotist, workshop supervisor or manager.

The technician may be asked to attend outpatient clinics, clinical rooms or hospital wards to assist the attending orthotist. This includes assisting the orthotist during casting or measure taking procedures. The Grade 1 Orthotic Technician may have in-depth knowledge or specialise in one or more areas of technical production and design and may be called upon to provide advice of a technical nature in regard to a particular orthosis, design or method of manufacture.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance or willingness to undertake this training or other qualification deemed equivalent by NSLHD. For the Technical Officer a Diploma / Certificate Orthotic & Prosthetic Technology or equivalent training or level of workplace or educational experience deemed equivalent by the service.
What technical experience/skills can you bring to the role and how are these skills related to Prosthetic and Orthotic manufacture. Are there other skills from other industries which are transferable to an Orthotic technical role? Do you have any relevant qualifications or experience?
How would you describe your communication skills and ability to work as part of a team?
What skills do you have in regard to flexibility within the work environment with the ability to re-prioritise tasks as requested/ required in a demanding environment?
