Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer , which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence . Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Security Engineer in Canberra to work on various projects .
This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:
Support security accreditation and assurance activities for current and future product releases, including the preparation and maintenance of security accreditation artefacts, risk assessments, and assurance evidence.
Liaise with Defence, ASD, DCIAB, intelligence agencies, and other stakeholders regarding security issues, accreditation activities, threat assessments, and compliance requirements.
Develop, maintain, and review Security Management Plans, System Security Plans (SSP), security operating procedures, and associated security documentation.
Conduct security risk, threat, and vulnerability assessments to identify security weaknesses and develop mitigation strategies consistent with Defence risk management practices.
- Provide specialist security engineering support to technical support, sustainment, and project teams regarding security design, implementation, configuration, and remediation activities.
Maintain security documentation and artefacts to support audits, accreditation reviews, governance activities, and ongoing assurance.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
Advanced knowledge and experience in security including understanding of gateways and cross domain solutions.
Demonstrated experience in reviewing engineering and technical documentation for security compliance.
Strong stakeholder engagement across Defence and other government agencies.
Experience in security accreditation and assurance activities.
Understanding of Defence Security Principles including DSPF, PSPF, DSPM, and ISM
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
