Paralegal. Full time, ongoing position. Applications close on 11:59pm Sunday 5 July 2026.

About the role:

As a Paralegal, you will work closely and collaboratively with Committee members, administration team leaders, fellow paralegals, and solicitors. You will deliver high-level administrative and quasi-legal support to ensure the operational requirements of the Committees are met seamlessly. This is a unique opportunity to build a deep understanding of criminal law while coordinating workflows, drafting legal documents, and tracking critical case data.

The OPP operates five distinct Legal Specialist Committees covering Sexual Offences, Fraud, Drugs, Mental Impairment, and Youth Justice. Overseen by a strategic Steering Committee, these committees play a pivotal role in supporting Trial Division Directors, Managing Principal Solicitors, and the broader legal practice by providing expert advice, support, and training on complex legal and evidentiary issues.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Provide High-Level Support: Coordinate the workflow and administrative operations of the Committees, manage email inboxes, draft responses, take minutes, and maintain precise records.
Conduct Research & Knowledge Management: Undertake research, maintain databases for sentencing trends and case outcomes, and collate/circulate recent case law updates.
Deliver Quasi-Legal Assistance: Triage and allocate relevant matters, fact-check information, and draft correspondence, submissions, and briefs to counsel.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key point of contact to liaise professionally with external stakeholders including Victoria Police, the courts, and defence practitioners.
Process Improvement: Collaborate with legal support staff to establish, implement, and monitor efficient and consistent administrative practices across the committees.

About You

To be successful, you will need to demonstrate:

A Passion for Criminal Law: A genuine, demonstrated interest in criminal law and the justice system.
Legal Support Experience: Prior paralegal or quasi-legal experience handling case preparation, legal drafting, and analysis within a complex, confidential, or sensitive environment.
Exceptional Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships and produce clear, concise written communications.
Research Capabilities: Proven ability to undertake legal research, identify trends, and accurately record data.
Resilience & Collaboration: Strong teamwork skills, an innovative approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
Discretion & Integrity: High judgment and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential information.
