About the Role:
You will contribute to a vibrant research environment by developing your research profile in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science. Working alongside experienced researchers on externally funded projects, you will publish in high-quality journals and conferences, develop your own research program and funding portfolio, and contribute to research that delivers meaningful impact for industry, society and the broader community.
Your responsibilities will include:
Teaching
- Deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and related disciplines.
- Design, develop and continuously enhance curriculum, learning resources and assessment, incorporating contemporary pedagogical practices and educational technologies.
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences through lectures, tutorials, laboratories, workshops and project-based learning, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Supervise honours and postgraduate coursework research projects and contribute to unit coordination and student mentoring, commensurate with the level of appointment.
Research
- Contribute to high-quality research in AI, Machine Learning and Data Science.
- Publish research findings in high-quality refereed journals and conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on research projects.
- Develop an emerging research profile and progressively contribute to competitive funding applications.
- Assist with supervision of honours and postgraduate research students.
Engagement & Leadership
- Contribute to a collegial, inclusive and collaborative academic environment that supports excellence in teaching, research and student success.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with industry, professional bodies, alumni and community partners to enhance teaching, research and impact.
- Contribute to academic governance, service activities and professional engagement within the School, University and broader discipline, commensurate with the level of appointment.

Our ideal candidate will satisfy the following Essential Criteria.
Qualifications
- A doctoral qualification in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with expertise in the development or application of AI and data-driven technologies.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
- Demonstrated experience, or the capacity to contribute to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and related areas within computer science and software engineering.
- Demonstrated ability, or the potential, to develop and deliver engaging, student-centred learning experiences using contemporary teaching practices and educational technologies.
- Knowledge of contemporary educational practices, including curriculum design, assessment, and innovative approaches to teaching and learning in higher education.
- A developing track record of research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related areas, demonstrated through quality research outputs, with the potential to establish an impactful research profile, attract competitive funding, and collaborate with industry and research partners.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to fostering a collegial, inclusive and supportive working environment, and the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues and external stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia.

Formed in 2017, EECMS unites Curtin’s core expertise in electrical engineering, computing, physics, mathematics, and statistics to better understand and advance our data-driven world. As part of Curtin’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, EECMS is one of the university’s largest schools, with a rapidly expanding teaching and research portfolio.
