SAP Basis Consultant – Job Description
Role Overview
An SAP Basis Consultant is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of SAP systems. They ensure the performance, availability, and security of SAP environments while supporting upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Administration
Install, configure, and maintain SAP systems (ECC, S/4HANA, BW, etc.)
Perform system copies, client copies, and refresh activities
Manage SAP landscapes (Development, Quality, Production)
2. Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Monitor system performance using SAP tools (ST22, SM37, ST03, DBACOCKPIT)
Analyze system logs and dumps to identify issues
Optimize database and system performance
3. User & Security Management
Create and manage user roles and authorizations
Ensure compliance with security standards and policies
Handle password resets and access issues
4. Transport Management
Manage SAP Transport Management System (TMS)
Move transports between environments safely
Troubleshoot transport failures
5. Upgrades & Patching
Perform SAP kernel upgrades and support package implementation
Assist in SAP version upgrades (e.g., ECC to S/4HANA)
Apply patches and ensure system stability
6. Backup & Recovery
Plan and execute system backup strategies
Restore systems during failures
Ensure disaster recovery preparedness
7. System Monitoring & Support
Monitor daily system health (CPU, memory, disk usage)
Provide 24/7 support for critical systems
Troubleshoot incidents and resolve tickets
8. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain technical documentation
Ensure compliance with IT policies and audit requirements
Required Skills
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of SAP Basis administration
Experience with SAP systems: ECC, S/4HANA, BW, CRM
Database knowledge (HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2)
Operating systems: Linux/Unix/Windows
SAP tools: TMS, Solution Manager, SAP GUI
Basic knowledge of networking and OS-level concepts
